Hack4Hack

Privacy policy

Last updated 2026-10-26

This policy explains what personal data Hack4Hack (hack4hack.com) collects, why, who it is shared with and the choices you have. Questions or requests: connect@hack4hack.com.

What we collect

Account details: your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash) or Google sign-in, and the profile details you choose to add: mobile number, college or company, degree, graduation year, city, country, bio, skills, GitHub and LinkedIn.

Hackathon activity: the hackathons you register for, your team, invitations, submissions, scores, certificates and messages you send through the site.

Startup Challenge applications: founder and startup details, files you upload (such as a pitch deck or registration certificate) and payment status.

Payments: payments are handled by Razorpay. We receive the payment ID, amount and status, never your full card or bank details.

Usage data: pages viewed, clicks on Register, the device type, a random visitor ID stored in your browser, and where you came from (such as an ad, a referral link or a search engine). Records of page views are deleted after about 400 days.

How we use it

To run your account and the hackathons you join: registration, teams, workspaces, submissions, judging, results and certificates.

To email you about hackathons you registered for (deadlines, round results, announcements) and, if you have an account, occasional news about new hackathons. You can ask us to stop the second kind at any time.

To keep the platform secure and fair, prevent abuse and fix problems.

To understand which pages and channels work, and to measure our ads.

Who we share it with

Organizers of hackathons you register for see your name, email, mobile number, college, degree, graduation year, city and skills, so they can run the event and contact participants.

Other people on the site see what you choose to make public: your public profile (name, bio, college, skills, links and projects), your team name and members, submitted projects, and your listing on Find teammates if you turn it on.

Service providers who process data for us: Vercel (website hosting), Render (servers), MongoDB Atlas (database), Resend (email delivery), Razorpay (payments), Google (sign-in and ads measurement).

We do not sell your personal data.

Cookies and similar technology

We keep your sign-in and a few settings (such as the theme) in your browser. A random visitor ID helps us count visits without identifying you.

We use the Google Ads tag to measure our ads. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, it only stores cookies after you accept them, and you can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.

Where your data is stored

Our providers store and process data in data centres in more than one country. When data moves between countries, we rely on our providers' standard safeguards.

How long we keep it

We keep your account data while your account is open. Hackathon records (teams, submissions, results and certificates) are kept after an event so that results and certificates stay valid. Usage records are deleted after about 400 days.

Your choices and rights

You can view and edit your profile at any time from your dashboard.

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account by writing to connect@hack4hack.com. We reply within 30 days. Some records may be kept where the law requires it, such as payment records.

Depending on where you live (for example under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act or the EU and UK GDPR), you may also have the right to object to some uses of your data and to complain to your data protection authority.

Children

Hack4Hack is meant for people aged 13 and over. Where the law of your country requires a parent's consent for someone your age, please get it before you sign up.

Changes

If we change this policy, we update the date at the top, and for important changes we tell account holders by email.
