Hack4Hack

Agentic AI hackathons (2026)

An agentic AI hackathon asks for more than a chatbot: your agent has to plan steps, call tools and APIs, and finish a real task, such as filing a form, triaging a support ticket or fixing a bug in a repository.

Strong submissions show the agent working end to end, handle failures safely, and keep a human in the loop for risky actions. See agentic AI project ideas to get started.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a chatbot and an AI agent?

A chatbot answers messages. An agent decides what to do next, uses tools (search, code, APIs, a browser) and acts on the result, repeating until the task is done.

Which frameworks can I use?

Any that the rules allow: plain function calling with an LLM API, or frameworks like LangGraph, CrewAI, the OpenAI Agents SDK or the Claude Agent SDK. Simple, reliable agents usually beat complex ones.

Do I have to pay to register on Hack4Hack?

No. A Hack4Hack account is free, and most hackathons are free to enter. When an organizer charges a fee, it is shown on the hackathon page before you register.
